The Anti-Slavery Society Convention, 1840. This 10 megapixel image from the National Portrait Gallery, London depicts in striking detail the pivotal 1840 Anti-Slavery Society Convention, with an elderly Thomas Clarkson speaking. It contains 136 identifiable persons, and has been used to illustrate more than 28 articles in the English Wikipedia alone.

This week's "Features and admins" covers Sunday 8 – Saturday 14 May

New administrators

Two editors were reconfirmed as administrators:

New featured picture: Black Rhinoceros, photographed by User:Ikiwaner
Six images were promoted. Medium-sized images can be viewed by clicking on "nom":

There were no new featured articles. Anthony Michael Hall (nom) was delisted because of referencing problems.

From the newly featured list, Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance: Quincy Jones in 2008, who won the award in 1991. His notable musical skills spanned conducting, trumpet playing, and composing.
Six lists were promoted:

Atlantic Coast Conference football championship games (nom), with four featured articles and four good articles. The ACC Championship Game is an American college football game held on the first Saturday in December by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) each year to determine its football champion. The game pits the champion of the Coastal Division against the champion of the Atlantic Division following the conclusion of the regular season (nominated by JKBrooks85 and praised by the reviewers as fine work).

Newly promoted sounds will be included in next week's edition.

New featured picture photographed by User:Lviatour: Atlantic mackerel. Reviewer Lycaon commented, "The fish is not just 'dried'. Fatty fish like mackerel is smoked to be preserved. This is how it gets its golden hue."
Information about new admins at the top is drawn from their user pages and RfA texts, and occasionally from what they tell us directly.

To anyone wondering how a topic with only 3/13 articles featured is a "featured topic"- it's not. It's a Good Topic, as less than 50% of the articles are featured. --PresN 01:45, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, fixed. I was just too bleary-eyed when doing this page to realise I'd chosen the wrong one, which had already been mistakenly omitted last week. I must say, I just cannot work out how to tell featured from good topics in the templates on the nomination page: what confused me was the bronze star against the top-billed article. An associated issue is that no distinction is made between the component featured and good articles and featured and good lists; they're all treated as FAs. What's the secret to both? Tony (talk) 14:26, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, like what PresN said, if a topic has articles that are 50% featured, its a featured topic. Less than 50%, it a good topic. Probably be a good idea to look at the talk page to really see if its good or featured. GamerPro64 16:08, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This page requires a huge amount of hum-drum work each week. I'm putting in a request that closers specify whether a new FT is featured or good, so I don't have to use a calculator on each template. This job needs to be as streamlined as possible. :-) Tony (talk) 16:12, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Am I the only one to find it ironic that Sarek, right after being re-confirmed, has been blocked by another admin? --Orange Mike | Talk 17:14, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, it certainly raised my eyebrow.. -- œ 12:57, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
