Multimedia Usability meeting

The Multimedia Usability Project Meeting France was held 6–8 November in Paris. The meeting was funded by Wikimédia France, and was organized by Schiste and Notafish. There were 30 participants, including developers, chapter members and Foundation staff.

Topics discussed

The meeting was for working on usability issues specific to uploading and using multimedia files on the projects. Topics included the Commons upload form, problems with image search and metadata, improving multilingual support, metrics and integration with other projects, redesigning interfaces and mass uploading tools, and education about GLAM issues and what Commons is. Detailed notes about each of these topics is available.

There were also several demonstrations of various multimedia tools.

In addition to these notes, microblogging notices from participants are tagged as #wikimediamultimedia on identi.ca and twitter.

Results

The meeting was a working meeting, with a lot of associated coding activity. One result so far was the production rollout of the GlobalUsage extension, which tracks usage of a file across all Wikimedia wikis.
